Thorne was born on November 5th, 1987 in Brooklyn, New York in the United States of America. She was born to Nerissa Guy and Navie Guy and raised along with her two brothers, Ky-Mani and Caleb.
Her parents raised them in New York, America but they are immigrants from Trinidad. Thorne studied formally dramatic theatre at the Professional Performing Arts School (PPAS) in Manhattan.
She won the 2015 Young Arts Award in Spoken Theater and the U.S. during her senior year of high school. The White House annually awards a Presidential Scholar in the Arts.
Thorne chose to enroll in Cornell University after submitting applications to several colleges for both academic and artistic programs. There, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Human Development with a minor in Inequality Studies.
