Brandon Routh is the third of four children of Ronald Wayne Routh, who was a carpenter, and Catherine LaVonne, who worked as a teacher, and was brought up in a Methodist family. As a child he was interested in music, and he played the piano and the trumpet. He studied at Norwalk High School, where he was very active in sports, music and theatre. After matriculation, he enrolled at the University of Iowa, as he wanted to become a writer.

However, he dropped out of college and moved to Manhattan, and then Los Angeles, in order to pursue an acting career. Before he earned his first role on screen, he featured in the video for the song “What A Girl Wants”, performed by Christina Aguilera. After that he got his first role, in the TV series “Odd Man Out” in 1999, which was followed by brief appearances in such TV series as “Undressed” (2000), “One Life To Live”, (2000-2001), and “Gilmore Girls” (2001). He continued to appear in small roles in series such as “Cold Case” (2003), “Will & Grace” (2004), and “Oliver Beene” (2004).

From 2006, and his film debut in the film “Karla”, his career began to take a turn for the better, and the same year, he was selected for the role of the superhero Superman\Clark Kent in the film “Superman Returns” (2006), directed by Bryan Singer, and also starring Kate Bosworth and Kevin Spacy. Engagement in the film increased his net worth by a large margin, but it also launched him further into the Hollywood scene, celebrating him as an actor, thanks to the popularity of the film. He also voiced his character in the video game made that year, entitled “Superman Returns” and its sequel in 2010 “CR: Superman Returns”, which also added to his net worth.

Two years after the film, Brandon appeared in the comedy film “Zack and Miri Make a Porno”, and the same year he starred in the film “Fling”, followed with three films in 2009, “Life Is Hot in Cracktown”, “Stuntmen”, and “Table For Three”. The next year was quite successful for Brandon, as he found engagement in three more popular productions, including “Dylan Dog: Dead of Night”, “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”, and “Chuck” (2010-2011). He continued successfully into the next decade of the 2000s, increasing his net worth by appearing in several popular TV series and films, including “Crooked Arrows” (2012), “Arrow” (2013-2015), “400 Days” (2015), and most recently “Legends of Tomorrow” (2016), which also added a lot to his net worth.

Thanks to his skills, Brandon has received several prestigious awards, including the Saturn Award in category Best Actor for his work on “Superman Returns”, and Empire Award in category Best Male Newcomer for his work on the same film, among many other awards. Speaking about his personal life, Brandon Routh has been married to actress Courtney Ford since 2007; the couple has a son. He is known as a big supporter of President Barack Obama. #Quote
1[on being replaced by Henry Cavill as Superman] I would have liked to have done another movie. I love the character, and the fans are great. It has been an amazing family to be a part of. I feel like I still had more to do, and to grow as the character. But Henry [Cavill] is a great actor and has done a nice job. I'm happy for Superman fans that they get another film.
2I'm happy to have anyone as a fan, no matter race, religion, political party, sexual orientation, or sports team affiliation. [Interview, June 24, 2010]
3[on making the Superman character darker]: I don't know how much darker you want to make it necessarily. You make the stakes higher, you make the villain darker, I think that's a way to do it. But I don't think Superman himself needs to be darker. He definitely has to struggle, but I don't think Superman should ever be dark and brooding, that's not his nature. And that's not what people want to see.
4[on being asked if he ever thought playing Superman would be bad for his career]: "No. I mean, I was wary of what being Superman meant to my life, the possibilities of what it might mean, but then I think of all the positives and that kind of takes it all away. There are a lot of negatives to not do it, too."
5People will like me, I think, because I do a good job in the film, but I also realize that the appeal isn't just me. It's the character. It's the film. It's what Superman stands for and brings to the table. Not just me.
6I'm kind of slowly becoming a star. I've kept my sanity. I've learned along the way, all these months that I've been here and slowly doing interviews and the suit picture getting released on the Internet-all this has come very gradual, which has really helped me to get it straight in my head and not go over the top. I know that that's a minuscule amount of exposure that's going to happen. It's going to be all over the place and it's going to become ridiculous at some point. The other thing that I realize is that it's not me so much as the character and the icon of Superman.
7[When asked if he's ready for the changes that will follow in his life upon being cast as Superman]: "I have no idea. But I am prepared to be prepared."
8[Talking about wearing the Superman costume]: "Very confining. But once you get past that - which is sometimes hard - it's also very empowering. First time I put it on, I felt... stronger. Like a different level of who I am. It makes playing the character much easier."
9[Talking about his work with a movement coach to capture Superman's physical presence]: "We worked on posture. Spine straight, hips forward, neck in line - just a clean motion moving through the world. [on the bright side] I slouch less."
